Our Mission & Vision

Who We Are
The African Politics Conference Group (APCG) is dedicated to the study of political institutions, ideas, and action throughout the continent. We support research, teaching, scholarly discourse and policy discussion.

We aim to expand opportunities for professional engagement and development within a global network of scholars and students. We are especially interested in new methods, new voices, and emerging questions across Africa.

State-building, political regimes, development, political economy, participation, conflict, identity, and inequality are important subjects in our field. We also focus on themes such as elections, policy reform, political violence, military intervention, ethnic participation, gender and politics, international relations and information technologies.
What We Do
We are an organized section of the American Political Science Association (APSA) and an affiliate of the African Studies Association (ASA) and the International Studies Association (ISA).

In addition to participating in these annual meetings, our members have organized academic conferences in several African countries through the APSA, and more recently we have convened an annual Research Development Group (RDG) of African and US scholars in connection with the APSA Annual Meeting.  We also convene an Online Colloquium.

We regularly circulate professional opportunities, community updates, and cross-regional initiatives. APCG members cover all parts of the African continent, working and living in most countries of the region.
