Joan Ricart-Huguet (Loyola University Maryland) has won Best Article for “Why do Different Cultures Form and Persist? Learning from the Case of Makerere University,” The Journal of Modern African Studies, 60(4), 429-456.

The committee (Marie-Eve Desrosiers. University of Ottawa; and Susan Thomson, Colgate University) noted that they selected this article on the basis of the originality of the argument. The theoretical argument is compelling and the methodology is strong, which allows Ricart-Huguet to explore political legacies in a microcosm in a convincing manner, all while making a valuable contribution to African studies.
