Daniel Steiman is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Government, with concentrations in Comparative Politics and International Relations. His interests include political violence and civil wars, with a regional focus on African politics, particularly South Africa. His dissertation project examines how organizational variation within rebel organizations affects two rebel violent outcomes: the level of inter-factional violence within rebel groups and the types of violent repertoires that rebel groups employ against political enemies. Empirical data comes from field research on the African National Congress (ANC) in 1980s and 1990s apartheid South Africa. Prior to attending American University, He received an M.A. from Georgetown University and a B.A. from Bucknell University.
