I am an Associate Professor in the Political Science Department at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. My sub-field is Comparative Politics, with a regional focus on Africa. I currently have two active strands of research. One examines on the politics of resource governance in Africa, with a particular focus on just, equitable, and sustainable extraction of critical minerals related to the global energy transition. The other examines voter behavior during democratic backsliding and global variation in the way people understand what democracy is.
