Research focuses on local responses to state failure in sub-Saharan Africa. My dissertation and a forthcoming book chapter examine the role of civil society organizations in social service provision in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Also involved in a project on the relationship between pirates and local governance structures in Puntland and central Somalia.
